<p>Rail is on an unprecedented roll with around $17bn being invested in rail infrastructure and rolling stock to support intermodal freight, passenger and mining networks.</p> <p>It also faces many challenges including urban congestion, energy prices, skill shortages and climate change.</p> <p>AusRAIL Plus 2007, Australia’s premier rail exhibition and conference, to be held in Sydney in December, will examine the impacts of and opportunities presented by change and growth in the industry.</p> <p>At the last AusRAIL Plus conference held in 2005, 800 senior executives heard presentations by 75 speakers, while 3,000 trade visitors a day attended the exhibition.</p> <p>This year’s conference and exhibition will be 30% bigger, with more than 100 speakers, including 16 international guest speakers and attendees from North and South America, Africa, Europe and Asia.</p> <p>Speakers will include John Watkins, New South Wales deputy premier and minister for Transport and Finance Tim Fischer, former deputy prime minister and transport minister and former chairman, Tourism Australia Mike van de Worp, manager, Railroad Operations, BHP Billiton Iron Ore Stephen Cantwell, chief operating officer, QR and Don Telford, chief executive officer, Pacific National and chief operating officer, Asciano.</p> <p>AusRAIL Plus 2007 is being held at the Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre, Darling Harbour, December 4-6.
