<p>South Australia’s treatment of its ports is the only example of “very good” infrastructure regulation in the country, according to the Australian Council for Infrastructure Development.</p> <p>In its scorecard, released yesterday (Wednesday, July 12), the council marked New South Wales, Western Australia, Tasmania and the Northern Territory as “very poor” for port regulations.</p> <p>Victoria scored consistently well, with ports and rail given a “good” designation.</p> <p>The council’s report covers regulation of government assets, such as ports, railways and telecommunications.</p> <p>The Federal Government was rated “fair” overall.</p> <p>The council’s chief executive, Dennis O’Neill, said: “If you look at ports, for instance, you can’t argue the system is broken.</p> <p>“But if you want them to work better, if you’re a purist, then you have to get serious about port regulations and make some real changes.</p> <p>“There is a higher probability for sensible regulatory outcomes from well designed regulatory systems.”</p> <br />
