The latest round of Aurizon’s Community Giving Fund has opened, providing community groups and charities the opportunity to receive grants of up to $20,000.

Aurizon’s managing director and CEO Andrew Harding encouraged groups that were eligible to apply for the grant, and put particular focus on those operating in rural communities, where over 70% of the rail operator’s employees live and work.

“The aim of our Community Giving Fund is to help support these communities, which are our communities too,” Harding said.

“Charities or community groups looking for support for projects aimed to deliver positive outcomes in the areas of community safety, health and wellbeing, education or the environment are encouraged to apply.”

To be eligible, groups must be non-profit organisations that hold an approved deductible gift recipient (DGR) status charity (Item 1) from the Australian Tax Office, and have projects affecting areas in which Aurizon operates.

Harding said Aurizon was proud to have supported more than 280 charities and not-for-profit organisations through the Community Giving Fund since it was established in 2011.

“This funding all goes towards local community projects, and we look forward to continuing that support in this new round,” he said.

Applications for this latest round of the Giving Fund will close on Friday 27 October.
