Federal investigators will look into the runaway of a rake of loaded freight wagons near the Victoria-South Australia border on November 23.
According to a summary from the Australian Transport Safety Bureau, a rake of approximately 30 loaded freight wagons rolled around 600 metres during the runaway event at Bordertown, South Australia, just after 4pm local time.
The wagons were from freight service 2122S operated by Bowmans Rail, and the runaway began while locomotives were changing ends of the rake.
The wagons rolled back 600 metres into the Bordertown siding, and no injuries or damage was reported.
The ATSB will examine the rollingstock and train infrastructure layout during its investigation.
It said it will also interview witnesses and obtain relevant documentation for analysis, to help form a final report by the fourth quarter of 2020.
Should a safety critical issue be identified during the course of the investigation, the Bureau will immediately notify those affected.
