Asian firms show interest in Alice-Darwin rail option

Asian logistics firms and electrical appliance outlets are among companies due to hold detailed discussions on sending freight on the Adelaide-Darwin railway, the Northern Territory Government has said.

Chief minister Clare Martin said the interest in the rail line was expressed after her address to Singapore’s chamber of commerce.

"When companies such as Mitsubishi spend $100,000 a day on storage in Australia, it is clear that significant savings will be made through the railway," she said.

The line is due to open for freight early next year, upon completion and testing of the link presently under construction.
