<p>In news that will be music to the Tasmanian Government’s ears, Asciano said today that several bidders for Pacific National’s Tasmania business had been selected to progress to the next stage and a new owner would be found by next month. </p> <p>"The successful bidders have demonstrated that they have an understanding of the value of the business as a going concern and are serious about purchasing the company," Asciano said. </p> <p>"The bidders will now conduct their own due diligence with access to comprehensive information on the assets, liabilities, contracts and operations of the company. </p> <p>"Following this, bidders will be asked to submit their binding offers for consideration."</p> <p>Last month, infrastructure minister Graeme Sturges had said State Government ownership was the least desired option and that he had talked to prospective rail operators about investing in Tasmania.</p> <p>"We are committed to the rail rescue package of $122m and we’ll continue with that package and we’ll let the orderly process take its course," Mr Sturges told the ABC.</p> <p>"I’m very confident that we’ll have a good resolution of this issue in the not too distant future."</p> <br />
