One of Australia’s largest road-to-rail freight conversions has been recognised with a major industry accolade.
The Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) took home the Supply Chain Industry & Government Partnership Award at the annual Australian Logistics Council (ALC) Awards in Melbourne on May 28.
The award recognises outstanding collaboration, productivity, and regional connectivity for the Pimba Intermodal Hub project near Olympic Dam in South Australia. Delivered in partnership with BHP’s Copper SA operations, Aurizon, and Symons Clark Logistics, the hub represents a massive shift in how regional freight is moved.
By transitioning Copper SA’s freight from roads to tracks, the project will eliminate more than 11,000 truck movements from South Australian roads each year. This shift cuts 13 million heavy-vehicle kilometres annually and reduces carbon emissions by about 20,000 tonnes per year.
The annual awards celebrate companies and individuals strengthening Australia’s supply chains through innovation, resilience, and sustainability.
