ARTC aims for one-stop shop interstate rail access

<p>The Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) will attempt to streamline operating codes on its standard gauge networks to provide "one stop shop" rail access for interstate users.</p> <p>ARTC wants to "overcome the historical state-based agreements" that are an impediment to efficient rail operation, the corporation wrote in its 2004 annual report.</p> <p>In the last 12 months, the corporation has taken its lease up on New South Wales interstate and Hunter Valley tracks &#8211 which will be the subject of significant network changes.</p> <p>"The NSW lease provides a significant opportunity for a one-stop shop for rail access users on the national interstate standard gauge network," ARTC managing director David Marchant said. </p> <p>ARTC intends to provide real price reductions in access charges in NSW in the next five years.</p> <br />
