ARA to establish Young Leaders Advisory Board

The Australasian Railway Association has announced plans to create a board of young rail professionals to provide advice and proposals to better harness the ideas of young talent, and provide a voice for the industry’s younger demographic.

The ARA this week called for expressions of interest from young leaders throughout the industry.

An advisory group made up of ARA board members Anna Squire, René Lalande and Julian Sharp will review the expressions of interest to select a gender-balanced mix of eight people under 35 to the Young Leaders Advisory Board (Y-LAB).

ARA chief executive Danny Broad, who discussed plans for the Y-LAB during his speech to the AusRAIL 2018 Gala Dinner in November 2018, said the expressions of interest phase was an exciting opportunity for the ARA and young industry leaders alike.

“The AusRail 2018 Conference and Exhibition showcased some of the tremendous next generation talent we have in our rail sector,” Broad said.

“Additional engagement of younger generations through Y-LAB will strengthen ARA’s focus on industry growth and attractiveness as a career option.”

Once established, Y-LAB will meet four times annually, prior to ARA board meetings. Discussions will focus on specific issues for significant engagement with the ARA board.

Initial priorities will include the issues of branding, skills and training needs, and attracting career aspirants to the industry.

“I encourage industry colleagues to share this opportunity with your future leaders and similarly encourage those who meet the Y-LAB criteria to submit an application,” Broad concluded.
