Alstom a certified ‘manufacturing hero’

<p>Alstom’s Ballarat workshop has been presented with a certificate of Manufacturing Excellence from Victoria’s Manufacturing Hall of Fame.</p> <p>The award was presented by state manufacturing industry minister Rob Hulls, who said Alstom is a &#8220manufacturing hero&#8221 because of its export and service success, and its commitment to innovation, quality and the use of new technology.</p> <p>Alstom employs 138 people at Ballarat, where it carries out component manufacture and maintenance, including a $70m Comeng trains refurbishment program for Connex.</p> <p>It has also been awarded $316m in contracts to fit-out 58 Xtrapolis trains for Connex and 36 Citadis trams for Yarra Trams. </p> <p>This work will generate 48 additional jobs at Ballarat.</p> <p>In addition, an Alstom joint venture with Thiess won the contract for the Ballarat and Geelong sections of the state’s Regional Fast Rail project.</p> <br />
