Access to Gunnedah railway station has become easier after improvements delivered as part of the New South Wales $2.2 billion Transport Assistance Program (TAP).
Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson said work had been completed on the more than $1.3 million project to improve access to public transport services for those with a disability or mobility aids, carers or parents with prams and travellers with luggage.
“We’ve upgraded the waiting room, seating, ticket counter and access ramp to the platform,” he said.
“New features of the upgrade include a family accessible toilet and ambulant toilet, a boarding assistance zone, accessible parking spaces, zones for taxis, a formalised bus stop zone and dedicated drop-off zone.
“These important infrastructure upgrades improve passenger experience for all users, particularly those with disabilities or limited mobility.”
Regional Transport and Roads minister Sam Farraway said the Gunnedah station upgrade would make commuting easier for locals and visitors.
“The reality is many of our regional stations were neglected for years prior to 2011, which is why our Government has invested in the infrastructure that matters to regional communities through programs like TAP,” he said.
“This is about ensuring our public transport network is accessible for everyone and since 2011 our government has delivered more than 470 TAP projects across the state.”
Minor finishing work will continue on site in early December during standard construction hours. This will include landscaping, temporary site compound removal and rehabilitation of the site compound area, and general cleaning of the station.
