<p>Eurotunnel has welcomed the 12 millionth truck to travel on the freight shuttle under the English Channel since the service opened in July, 1994, <em>Lloyd’s List</em> reported in London today (Tuesday, May 8).</p> <p>“That is enough trucks to encircle the earth six times,” a Eurotunnel spokesman said.</p> <p>Receiving the big welcome was trucker Ian Ecob, 63, at the wheel of†an RH Freight lorry from Nottingham carrying a mixed load for Italy.</p> <p>Thirty trucks can be carried on each shuttle train and at peak Eurotunnel operates up to 250 shuttle services a day at a maximum of one leaving every 10 minutes.</p> <p>Last year, the shuttle service carried 1,296,269 trucks and in the first quarter of this year, 349,359 trucks, an increase of 11% compared with the same months of 2006.</p> <br />
