Sydney Trains achieves international procurement standard

Transport for NSW subsidiary Sydney Trains has become the first organisation in Australasia to achieve a Silver level Corporate Certification Advanced Standard from the Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPS).

Sydney Trains director of finance and corporate services Gary Pederson said the recognition was the result of eight months of hard work by Sydney Trains’ Strategic Procurement team.

“This is a huge achievement that gives confidence to taxpayers that we are providing value and suppliers that Sydney Trains is a great organisation to do business with,” Pederson said.

“Gaining the standard is particularly satisfying as we’re the first organisation in all of Australasia to achieve advance certification which is a global benchmark.

“It follows on from Sydney Trains achieving Level 3A procurement accreditation from the NSW Procurement Board last year: the first agency in NSW Government to do so.”

Pederson said Sydney Trains sought CIPS Advanced Accreditation as part of a strategy of benchmarking its processes, people and technology against other organisations as part of its vision to be a safe, customer-focused, modern, efficient and competitive business.

Sydney Trains submitted to CIPS an outline of its role in the areas of leadership and organisation, strategy, people, processes and systems, and performance measurement and management.

Sydney Trains staff, customers and suppliers and key managers were then interviewed by an independent verifier appointed by CIPS.

The standard was formally presented to Sydney Trains at the Chartered Institute of Purchasing Supply Australia annual awards in Melbourne last month.
