The newly-appointed managing director of infrastructure for Hyder Consulting Asia Pacific says the company is excited to be working on the removal of four level crossings on the Melbourne network.

A consortium including Hyder, Leighton Contractors and Aurecon was announced as preferred bidder for the removal of four level crossings – at Heatherdale Road in Mitcham, Blackburn Road in Blackburn, and Main and Furlong Roads in St Albans – as well as the re-building of St Albans, Ginifer and Heatherdale Stations: a $480 million contract.

Phil Kajewski was named as the company’s new infrastructure managing director on Thursday, July 23, moving on from his previous role as chief operating officer.

Previously, Kajewski contributed to projects including the M1 West Gate Freeway Alliance, and the M80 Tulla Sydney Alliance.

Through these projects, Hyder said in appointing him as head of infrastructure, Kajewski has built a reputation as an effective manager of innovative, high performing design teams. He’s keen to uphold that reputation in the level crossings operation.

“This selection as preferred proponent reflects on Hyder’s previous experience in major road and rail infrastructure projects, and our team is excited to work with the Alliance and the client towards delivering the works that seek to remove some of Melbourne’s dangerous and congested level crossings,” Kajewski said.

“I’ve been with Hyder since 1998 and it is a pleasure to be appointed to this position where I can lead the Infrastructure team for the Australia Pacific region.

“I am passionate about delivering major infrastructure projects that not only exceed our client expectations but also provide our people with an opportunity to fulfil their potential.”

Greg Steele, Hyder’s managing director in Australia Pacific, said the company was pleased to be appointing Kajewski to the new role.

“He is very well respected within the industry and within our organisation, and is someone who leads by example,” Steele said. “I look forward to his success in coming years as he leads the Infrastructure team to further success.”
