Leighton wins $463m China-Hong Kong rail deal

Leighton Holdings has won a $463m contract to construct a 7.6 km twin-track tunnel as part of a high-speed rail network between mainland China and Hong Kong. |
The contract, awarded by MTR Corporation, is for the Tse Uk Tsuen to Shek Yam section of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen Hong Kong Express Rail link (XRL).
Leighton has commissioned the help of fellow construction company Macmahon Holdings on the project.
The contract also includes the construction of ventilation and access adits, two ventilation buildings and a 90 m deep ventilation shaft. Drill and blast techniques will be used for the construction of the tunnels.
Work on the development will begin this month with completion scheduled for 2015.
